How Flexographic Printing Works on PP Woven Fabric

The Ceramic Anilox Roller System

Flexographic printing controls ink volume through a ceramic anilox roller — a steel roller engraved with a microscopic cell pattern and coated with industrial ceramic for wear resistance. Each cell picks up a precise, metered amount of ink from the ink tray and transfers it to the printing plate at a consistent volume, regardless of press speed. The cell count (lines per centimeter) and cell volume determine how much ink is laid down, allowing printers to dial in the correct ink film weight for each color without adjusting press pressure. The JLRPM-6800BO/6C uses one dedicated ceramic anilox roller per color station across all six stations.

Inter-Color Drying and Print Registration

Printing multiple colors in sequence requires each ink layer to dry before the next station applies ink on top of it — otherwise colors bleed and mix at the surface. The JLRPM-6800BO/6C includes an inter-color drying system between each of its six stations, ensuring the previous color is set before the web enters the next print nip. Print registration — the precise alignment of each color relative to the others — is maintained through servo-driven tension control on the web path. The machine supports four configuration modes (0+6, 1+5, 2+4, 3+3) to print on one or both sides of the PP fabric in a single pass at speeds up to 100 meters per minute.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials can the JLRPM-6800BO/6C print on?

PP woven fabric and PP laminated fabric with a max web width of 800 mm and max machine speed of 120 m/min (printing speed up to 100 m/min).

How many colors and what configurations are supported?

6 colors via 6 independent printing stations with ceramic anilox rollers. Configurations: 0+6, 1+5, 2+4, 3+3 (front/back). An inter-color drying system ensures clean color separation.

What causes common print defects and how are they fixed?

Most defects stem from pressure, ink chemistry (pH/viscosity), or mechanical concentricity. Dot gain is fixed by reducing impression pressure to "kiss print" level. Gear marks require checking T.I.R. of rotating parts. Dirty print requires cleaning the anilox roller and cylinders.

What is the recommended maintenance schedule?

Daily: clean anilox with vendor-specified solvents or hot water (water-based inks) immediately after the run. Before each job: inspect gear condition, test ink viscosity and pH, check plate mounting for trapped air.

What is the standard lead time?

Standard lead time is 2–3 months from order confirmation. Rey Long provides full technical documentation and commissioning support.
